OnePlus 15 Unboxing & First Impressions: Power-Packed Flagship with a Few Surprises!

Hey everyone, welcome back to the blog! Today’s post is quite special because I finally got my hands on the brand-new OnePlus 15 — yes, the one that’s launching officially in China on the 27th. Luckily, I managed to get it early, and honestly, it feels exciting to hold this “red box” that’s been creating so much buzz among tech lovers.

Let’s sit down, grab a chai, and go through the whole unboxing, design, performance, gaming, and camera experience of this new beast. And of course, I’ll also share what I liked and what slightly disappointed me about it.

The Classic Red Box & What’s Inside

So, as usual, OnePlus continues with its signature bright red box — simple, premium, and instantly recognizable. Inside, you get the phone (mine is the Sandstone shade), a matching transparent case, a Type-C to Type-C cable, and a 120W SuperVOOC charger.

Yes, a full charger in the box — thank you OnePlus! The 7300mAh battery sounds huge on paper, and that 120W charging makes sure you don’t spend your mornings stuck to the socket. There’s also the regular paperwork and a SIM ejector tool. The cover included feels nice too — soft matte finish that perfectly complements the phone’s design. Honestly, I prefer it over those glossy silicone covers that collect dust within a day.

Design & Build: Familiar Yet Refined

When I first picked up the OnePlus 15, my instant reaction was — “this feels like a stretched version of the OnePlus 13S.” The circular camera module is gone, replaced with a rectangular housing that looks modern but not very unique.

The build quality, though, is premium. The phone has an aluminum frame, smooth edges, and excellent weight distribution. Despite that big battery, it doesn’t feel bulky in hand. OnePlus phones usually nail ergonomics, and this one continues the legacy.

I went for the Sandstone color, but there’s also a black version that looks more classic and professional. Between the two, I’d say black feels more elegant, but the sandstone adds a refreshing change for those who want something different.

Display: Flat, Bright, and Fast

The OnePlus 15 features a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel with 1.5K resolution and an insane 165Hz refresh rate. Honestly, that’s one of the smoothest displays I’ve used recently. Scrolling through apps feels buttery, and animations are super fluid.

The display is flat — not curved — which some people will absolutely love, especially gamers who prefer a more practical screen without accidental touches. The bezels are minimal, brightness is solid, and color reproduction looks sharp and balanced.

For now, my unit runs ColorOS 16 since it’s the Chinese variant, but the global version will come with OxygenOS 16. Based on what I’ve seen, the difference won’t be massive, though OxygenOS still feels lighter and cleaner.

Performance: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 at Work

Now, this is where things get exciting. The OnePlus 15 is powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. My unit is the top variant, and honestly, it flies through everything — multitasking, gaming, camera, or benchmarks.

On AnTuTu, it scored nearly 3.96 million, and on Geekbench, it hit around 3655 (single-core) and 10700 (multi-core) — which is genuinely impressive. Apps open instantly, animations feel snappy, and the overall experience is flagship-level smooth.

However, there’s one area that raised my eyebrows — heating. During heavy benchmark stress tests, the phone went up to 50°C, which is quite high. Thankfully, in day-to-day use or while gaming, it didn’t heat that much. So, I’d say the chip is powerful but needs better optimization.

Gaming Test: Smooth Yet Warm

Let’s talk gaming because that’s where the 165Hz display really shines. I tested PUBG (Chinese version) first, and it supported 144 FPS, which is crazy smooth. Later, I switched to the global version, which currently supports up to 120 FPS — still fantastic.

Gameplay felt seamless, touch response was instant, and the stereo speakers added a nice immersive feel. Even during longer matches, the phone didn’t lag or stutter. Heat management was decent, though the back panel did get slightly warm after 30 minutes of gaming.

For serious gamers, this is a dream device — fast refresh rate, bright screen, excellent touch latency, and a large battery that keeps going.

Camera: Strong Hardware, Slightly Mixed Feelings

On the back, the OnePlus 15 sports a triple camera setup:

  • 50MP Sony IMX906 main sensor
  • 50MP Samsung telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom
  • 50MP OmniVision ultra-wide sensor

And on the front, you get a 32MP selfie camera.

The main camera performs beautifully in daylight — natural colors, crisp details, and great dynamic range. The zoom lens is also impressive up to 7x. The 120x digital zoom sounds fancy, but beyond 10x it’s mostly for fun, not real detail.

However, the ultra-wide camera struggles a bit with color balance. Sometimes reds and blues come out overly saturated, especially in bright light. Low-light shots are decent, though not as good as what we saw on previous OnePlus 15 Hasselblad collaborations. And yes — this time there’s no Hasselblad branding, which feels like a downgrade.

The selfie camera does a good job but tends to smoothen skin tones a bit more than I’d like, typical of Chinese variants. Hopefully, OxygenOS will handle it better globally.

Audio, Features & Extras

The stereo speakers are loud and clear, with nice separation between highs and lows. Perfect for watching YouTube or gaming without earphones.

You also get the new Shortcut Button, which can be customized for actions like camera, flashlight, translator, or screenshots. It’s actually a nice touch, replacing the old alert slider in a smarter way.

The 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is lightning-fast, and face unlock is equally quick. The phone runs on Android 16, and OnePlus promises up to 5 years of updates, which adds peace of mind for long-term users.

And yes, it comes with IP66/68/69K water and dust resistance, which is rare and super useful, especially in Indian conditions where rain and dust are common.

Battery Life & Charging

With a 7300mAh battery, this phone is a true marathon runner. It easily lasts a full day with heavy use — gaming, YouTube, social media, and camera all included. The 120W charger fills it up in around 25 minutes, while it also supports 50W wireless charging. That’s the kind of combination we dream of — big battery plus ultra-fast charging.

Final Thoughts: The Powerhouse with a Few Trade-Offs

After spending a few days with the OnePlus 15, I can say it’s a solid flagship that delivers excellent performance, great battery life, and stunning display quality. For gamers and power users, it’s one of the best devices out there right now.

However, the missing Hasselblad branding, slightly high heating during benchmarks, and no 2K display might disappoint long-time OnePlus fans. The design also feels a bit too familiar compared to older models.

Still, with everything else packed in — Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, 165Hz LTPO screen, 7300mAh battery, and blazing-fast charging — the OnePlus 15 is a true flagship in spirit. If OnePlus gets the pricing right, this could be one of the most balanced premium phones of 2025.

Wrapping Up

So that’s my complete unboxing and first impressions of the OnePlus 15. I’ll soon be doing comparison reviews with iQOO 15, Realme GT 8 Pro, and Vivo X300 Pro, so stay tuned. If you’re someone who loves high-end performance and fast charging more than flashy design, this one might just win your heart.
